Thundereggs from the Isle of Lesbos
This is a now closed and forbidden location from the Greek Island of Lesbos. This is definitely one of those seemingly drab locations that should definitely not be dismissed because there is actually a very distinct character going on here and some amazing details. A distinct shape is apparent in these stones, with extremely off-centre cores, sometimes even seeming to open up on the very edge of the nodule like a bubble. Inside the cores is usually a cave surrounded by grey chalcedony filled with complex swirls and textures. These thundereggs can produce some of the best close-up shots out there, and I have uploaded several from the first specimen below. The matrix appears somewhat brittle and is often broken and incomplete. It is dominated by a rich brown, often with bubbles and sometimes hints of flowbanding.
